The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step
Growing up in the Duluth area, I naturally developed a love for the outdoors. It doesn’t matter whether it is hiking, fishing, swimming, golf etc…as long as I am outside you’ll find a smile on my face. I grew up playing the guitar and saxophone. Lastly, I love traveling and learning about new cultures.
I was a part of a flash mob that danced to Cotton Eye Joe in Tokyo!
Mac Miller, Baby Keem, Kanye West, Sade, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Gorillaz, Toro y Moi, Coldplay, Frank Ocean, Hiatus Kaiyote, Freddie Gibbs, MF DOOM, The Strokes, James Blake, Nirvana, Action Bronson, Playboi Carti, Childish Gambino, Slick Rick, Cam’ron, D’Angelo, Daft Punk, Lil Wayne, Prince, Kenny G, Wham! / George Micheal, Radiohead, Eminem, Billy Joel, Lana Del Rey, Daniel Caesar, Teezo Touchdown, Steve Lacy, Justin Timberlake, SZA, Harry Styles, 070 Shake, FKA Twigs, and countless producers such as Madlib, J Dilla, Vegyn, Nujabes, The Alchemist, Pharrell, and Timbaland
Growing up with streaming services rather than CDs and iTunes blended the lines between genres for me. The feel of a song and the emotion it evokes is the most important part for me. I am very well versed when it comes to hip hop - especially the underground stuff that is closer to poetry than rap. That’s not to say I don’t dabble in a wide variety of genres as well! I have a strong love for R&B (especially the ‘90s), electronic, indie, alt rock, funk, soul, folk, jazz, and reggae.
Ever since I was a kid, music has been a part of my everyday life. Back then it was burning CD playlists, practicing guitar, and listening to Run-DMC Pandora radio. Nowadays I mostly procrastinate my homework and studying by doing deep dives on Spotify with the goal of finding a few new artists to show my friends. I also spent a year curating a fluid playlist that acted as a weekly radio for those who wanted to tune in to what I was listening to. I ended up having over 50 followers.
The ability to flood a room with smiles and energy is by far the best part about being a DJ. A close second is being able to add to the environment without taking the spotlight away from the newlyweds and their loved ones.
