Multiple years of study and experience from the School of Hard Knocks ????. Seriously though, I spent 16 years in major market radio entertaining the masses through radio morning shows, radio commercial productions, live appearances and remote broadcasts. My music and entertaining experience spans many years and areas.
Golfing, biking, exercise of any kind, yoga, reading, classic car shopping, antiquing, archery, fishing, gardening and landscaping, podcasting, energy medicine and natural health and wellness research.
I was on the air on KQ92 when I was 19 years old. Late nights and weekends but hey, I was on KQ!
U2, Goo Goo Dolls, Maroon 5, Ryan Adams, Jayhawks, BoDeans, Johnny Cash, Kenny Chesney, Gwen and Blake
60’s, 70’s, 80’s classic rock, disco, dance, motown, R&B, swing, chill and deep house genres (the kind of music you hear at a Las Vegas hotel pool in the afternoon). I’d have to throw Country and Jazz in there too.
“Music soothes the savage beast.” This famous quotation from William Congreve (1670-1629) evidently has a lot more truth to it than he ever realized 400 years ago. To complete the quote: "Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast. To soften rocks, or bend the knotted oak." Over the years, someone changed breast to beast but you get the point. Music has the power to calm or excite, to bring peace or violence. Even without lyrics, music has subtle power that is hard to describe or even define. I’ve known this since I was very young and when my time here is done...music will be playing.
Having the vibe of the dance floor in the palm of your hands. There is something very special about reading the room and getting everyone involved in one way or another. Some people wouldn’t be caught doing anything but a slow dance. And some want to roll all over the dance floor like they are on fire! Most are somewhere in between. As a DJ, it’s my job to find that flow throughout the night to have everyone participate, on fire or not.
The wedding day is about the couple, the wedding party consisting of their most special friends, the family of the bride and groom and all the invited guests. It’s not about an outrageous personality yelling in a microphone. I know that. I keep the spotlight where it should be….middle of the dance floor where newlyweds and everyone are having one great time!
